Scotland Day 4--More Edinburgh

Today was another day of seeing the sights in Edinburgh.  We wanted to head to the other end of the Royal Mile to check out the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the Queen's official residence in Scotland.  I wish I could have taken photos inside, but photography is forbidden.  The state rooms were really amazing, and the story of Mary, Queen of Scots is tragic, at best. Check out the link if you want to see photos of the inside--the rooms are gorgeous.

The day started off rather gray and gloomy, and we even had to postpone an outdoor tour due to rain, but the by the time we were done with our visit inside, the rain had passed, and the sun was on its way again.

Our outside tour included the ruins of the Abbey, as well as the lovely gardens.

Looks like someone was getting a little tired of listening to the history!

This one may have to replace my outdated header, don't you think?

After another picnic lunch, we took a few minutes to wander through the Scottish Parliament building just across the street.  The tours were all booked for the day, but we were able to learn a bit about the history of this cool building, as well as check out the debating chamber.

Some of us don't look entirely thrilled to be here.

It was a super-cool, controversial, super-modern building, that only cost £414 million to construct.  Yikes!  Especially when the original estimate was £55!

After our abbreviated tour, we headed back up the Royal Mile to St. Giles Cathedral.  We had passed it the day before on our way up to Edinburgh Castle, but didn't have the time to stop then.  It made it to the list today, though.

Again, no photography was allowed inside, but this site has a great panoramic image of the interior.

It was a nice, quiet way to end our second day in Edinburgh.

Tomorrow, on to Glasgow and Stirling!
