Sorry. The family's had a bit going on lately, and I got sidetracked in my blogging catch-up.
I'm sure you're shocked.
But now we're back in business, and we'll finish up these fun Spring Break posts.
This is where we knew we had to begin our last day in New York; does it get any more iconic? We were too much on a budget to take a family of seven people up to the top, but thankfully, our kids didn't care.
We made sure we hit the famous lobby, and then took some photos outside. Unfortunately, the ones showing the whole building were too fuzzy to post--it was just too tall for my lacking photo skills to capture!
Once we'd taken in the magic of that icon, we moved on to another one--

Yeah, baby--Rockefeller Center!!
But I'm getting ahead of myself. We actually came directly from the subway underground up into the lobby before stepping outside. The artwork, architecture, and murals were a delight!
The verse here reads:
"Man's ultimate destiny depends

Just beautiful.
Now, on to the outside!
The skaters were out, and the spring flowers were putting on quite a show:

and then we finally hit the mother lode--the place the kids had all been waiting for.
Nintendo World!!
The only location in the world, just so you know.
Not that our kids were excited or anything...
And it wasn't just the little kids that were giddy--take my word for it. The older boys were so excited; they're old-school Pokemon fans, and to prove it, that store was the only place Logan cracked open his wallet the whole trip.
Every male person in our family under the age of 20 went home with a toy, which the male, 20-something salesguy was quick to inform me were not dolls.
They're "action plush".
There's a difference!
Just ask the young man up there cuddling the Snorlax.
Once everyone had their fill of Nintendo (yeah, like that could ever happen!) we moved on outside again. Around the corner from Rockefeller Center was St Patrick's Cathedral, a lovely building smack in the middle of a really busy area of the city.
I was glad we took a few minutes inside, but it was really hard to escape the hustle and bustle of outside. The doors were wide open, and the sounds of traffic and people rushing past was pretty invasive. It was nice to see, but hardly a reverent experience.
The last stop of the day--and of our time in New York City--was The Staten Island Ferry. We wanted to have the experience of riding on the water, of seeing the sights, and of hopefully snapping some photos of this Lady...
The way across to Staten Island was packed with commuters--

--but we decided that we really love New York, and can't wait to go back.
It's an amazing place; eclectic, patriotic, cultured, and it truly has something for everyone. Everyone we met was so nice, and people truly were helpful when we needed a little assistance. We had a fabulous time, and are so glad to live in a country that has a city like New York to offer.
But next time we go back, we'll probably take it a little easier!

Did you get to go up in the Statue? We did that years ago and wow, what a climb! But what a sight!
so fun! we'd love to take our family, but i'm wondering, where did you stay? everything is so tiny and so expensive! do you know of a large secret place that families can afford? ;) it's so close, we really need to go do all the sites!
