Our last destination was York, where we planned to visit the Cathedral. We would have loved to see more of York, but our brains were full, our time was limited, and I think we had maxed out our "family togetherness quota".
The first step though, was to clear out of our caravan/trailer, and load everything back up into the van. As we were packing the food boxes, it was clear that something had to be done.
We never did get that campfire, but what would a "camping trip" be without s'mores? They're even better for breakfast!
Then it was off toward home.
After some muttering and mumbling of G-rated curse words, we finally found a place to park our van in York. The internal roominess of that van was a blessing, but its external dimensions are a booger to park here. Especially in city centers. But, the ever-intrepid Dad got it done, and we took off for York Minster Cathedral.
It was a lovely building, and while there has been a church on that site since AD 627, the present building was begun in 1230 and was completed in 1472.
Many cathedrals have mirrors set up like this so you can get a view of the magnificent ceilings without risking breaking your neck or falling over backwards. The kids always have a good time with them.
But sometimes, too much of a good thing is still too much of a good thing. I think it may be time to go.
So, after over 1500 miles, 4 castles, 2 cathedrals, battlefields, monuments, a palace, a Parliament, Roman forts, museums, many gorgeous lochs, and more ham/turkey/pb&j sandwiches than we'd care to count, it was time to head home.
I don't even want to think about the laundry.
Help.
