So, on to the rest of our Spring Break in the Big Apple.
To set the stage, it's Tuesday, early in the afternoon...
After lunch we hopped back on the subway to the upper west side of Manhattan--a much quieter and calmer area of the city. At least it was nice and calm when we visited!
We wanted to see the Cathedral of St. John the Divine; maybe living in Europe for a couple of years gave us cathedralitis--we can't go for too long without seeing one or we start having symptoms of withdrawal...
This statue is called the Peace Fountain and is in a lovely garden on the cathedral grounds. We took a few minutes there before going inside.
It was a lovely building, and I am so very glad we took the time to visit. At this point, though, we knew we had to appease the younger crowd, so we set off for Central Park to play and work off some of that incredibly abundant preschooler energy.
On our way we walked through Frederick Douglass Circle, a spot dedicated to him as an American abolitionist, women's suffragist, editor, orator, author, statesman and reformer. There was a quote chiseled into the ground there that read: "Right is of no Sex - Truth is of no Color - God is the Father of us all, and we are all brethren."
Amen to that, sir.
Onward to the park!
The feet are starting to give out...
...must be time for some hot dogs (nasty!) and a big-old Spiderman ice cream treat.
He worked on that thing the whole walk back, finally finishing it in the subway. Sticky.
Good night, New York City. We'll be back for more tomorrow!
